Dental X-Rays

What are Dental X-Rays?

Dental x-rays are an important part of your dental and oral health. They are essential in helping us to detect certain intra-oral conditions that would otherwise go unnoticed with a regular examination. They may be needed before or even during certain procedures, like surgeries and root canals. You can expect x-rays to be taken at the majority of your appointments with us.

Why are Dental X-Rays needed?

Dental x-rays are needed because they help us to detect, diagnose and treat many dental conditions. Without the technology behind x-rays, we would only be treating you by what we see on the surface. If there was an underlying infection, a broken restoration or an impacted tooth, we may not be able to see what was going on. Dental x-rays use an incredibly minimal amount of radiation, so they’re safe and highly beneficial.

Who’s a good candidate for Dental X-Rays?

Most of our patients can safely have dental x-rays taken in our office. We will go over your health and medical history to determine if and when x-rays should be taken. You may need them taken before, during or after certain procedures to ensure treatment was provided correctly. In most cases, dental x-rays are a necessary part of preventative care, allowing us to check for cavities, bone loss and infections that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Process Of Taking Dental X Rays

What happens during the process of taking Dental X-Rays?

We sit you comfortably in one of our dental rooms. We then drape a lead apron over your body so that any radiation is refracted from this area. A small device is placed into the mouth and a larger machine is aimed towards this device. The x-ray is then taken and we’ll have an image of the tooth within seconds. The device is then moved to another area of the mouth and the process repeated until all x-rays needed are taken.

If you would like to come into our office to have x-rays taken, call us today and we can help to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience.
